What an incredible day it turned out to be for Sunday the 2nd of February's SheSails Discover Sailing Day at the Canberra Yacht Club. We are so pleased to have been able to celebrate our club's female sailors, and introduce so many new women to the sport all in one day.
Over 80 women headed out on the water, with most participating in the afternoon race. Great conditions, fun racing, some nice prizes on offer and big smiles all round.
Thank you especially to our volunteers and those members who volunteered their boats to take new sailors out! In particular we would like to thank our Commodore Sue Hart, Race Officer Deb Blackman, and Office Manager and the day's coordinator, Mary Kershaw.
Our numbers were limited to ensure everyone had a safe and positive experience today, and we are aware that there was a number of women who missed out. With demand this high, the club will definitely be scheduling some more of these days, and similar SheSails courses and activities soon, so watch this space!

The Club is also running a SheSails Learn to Sail Course - a heavily subsidised womens only version of our popular two week learn to sail course. Come try out sailing on the 4th of February and if you like it, join the learn to sail course from 15 February.

Each leading divisional winner from the CYC and YMCA sailing clubs, compete to decide who is the champion of the the lake. Using the CYC Sailability Hansa one design yachts, the racing was held in good conditions that led to enjoyable and intense racing with plenty of shouting fans on shore.
Andrew Reed triumphed and retained the Champion of the Lake trophy for the CYC as well as securing the America’s Mug. Chris Sant came 3rd and won the YMCA SC Champion of Champions trophy.
